Local community groups and charities to benefit from Co-op’s Fuel Good Day

Local charities and community groups will benefit on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from Fuel Good Day at their local Co-op Gas Bars.

Ten cents from every litre of gas sold goes to a group chosen by each Co-op.

Prairie North Co-op covers a large area including Melfort, Archerwill, Kelvington, Naicam, Spalding, and St. Brieux and staff at that store selected Saskatchewan Wildlifes Fish in School Program as the donation recipient. General Manager Terry Tremblay said they chose the FinS Program because it crosses all of those geographical areas and has meaning through all of their trading areas.

“When you can bring multiple community groups together, and then also help give some stewardship practices to the kids in school, we were really excited to get the opportunity to try and bring that all together,” Tremblay told northeastNOW.

The Fish in School Program sees kids hatching and growing fish that will be released back into nature.

Last year, Prairie North raised about $6,000 through Fuel Good Day through fuel donations, but also by hosting barbecues.

Tremblay called it a rewarding day when they can give back to the community.

“The managers get out and pump gas,” he said. “And the staff always have an extra hop in their step.”

Other Co-op’s throughout the Northeast are also participating in Fuel Good Day with funds going to local groups. Pineland Co-op is donating to the Pineview Lodge in Nipawin and the Choiceland Library.

Carrot River Co-op is donating to Kidsport in the area.

Beeland will be giving money to three groups; the Jack and Jill Preschool, Tisdale Twisters Gymnastics Club, and the Bjorkdale Little Valley Playschool.

Midway Co-op will be donating to the LeRoy Daycare. Humboldt and District Special Olympics will be receiving funds from the Humboldt Co-op.

With Lake Country Co-op covering a very large range, different gas bars are donating to different causes.

Locally, Kinistino Child Care will be getting funds from the Kinistino Gas Bar, and the Wakaw Gas Bar is donating to the Wakaw Lions Club.
