SaskTel LTE networks to improve with macro tower installations in the area

Sep 16, 2019 | 12:46 PM

SaskTel is expanding its LTE network in the province by adding 15 new macro towers in more rural areas and provincial parks.

The towers will fill in coverage gaps in busy provincial parks and in areas with little or no cell coverage.

In a release from the Government of Saskatchewan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel Don Morgan said the government is committed to ensuring residents have access to faster and more reliable LTE cellular service.

“As a result of our government’s wireless Saskatchewan initiative, SaskTel has been able to add these 15 new macro towers and the previously announced 103 small cell sites to enhance coverage in rural communities that previously had little wireless coverage,” Morgan said.

Towers will go up by March 2020 in the region including Pontrilas in the R.M. of Nipawin and in Domremy in the R.M. of St. Louis and in the R.M. of Moose Range.

SaskTel President and CEO Doug Burnett said the Crown corporation is working to meet the ever-growing demands for better wireless service in rural areas.

“We will continue to evaluate further expansion to continue adding capacity and improving coverage areas across Saskatchewan,” Burnett said in a release.

SaskTel has completed more than 3,200 initiatives to enhance service since 2010.
