The smile cookie campaign at Tim Hortons is underway across the country.

The campaign raises funds for charities, hospitals, and programs of each restaurant owner’s choice.

Here in Melfort, the funds from each cookie sold will go toward the North Central Health Care Foundation(NCHCF), according to owner Shannon Sigfusson.

“The full $1 goes to the foundation,” Sigfusson said. “It’s been very well supported in the past and the first couple of days in and it’s going very well again this year.”

Sigfusson said that they hope to sell 5,000 cookies throughout the campaign that runs until Sunday.

Last year’s funds also went to the NCHCF for its digital X-ray equipment.

“Typically when we do donations its for a couple of years with one charity so that they can get a significant chunk of money to fund their project,” Sigfusson said.

In previous years, the Melfort location has donated to the North East Victim Services and the women’s shelter in Melfort.

The Humboldt Tim Hortons will also be donating the funds raised at their location to their local health foundation again this year.

The Humbodlt District Hospital Foundation received $8,593 from the 2018 smile cookie campaign. That number works out to be about 1.5 cookies per person in Humboldt.

The Tisdale restaurant is raising funds for the Northeast Early Childhood program while Nipawin has its funds ear marked for Handiworks in the community.

Smile cookies are available at Tim Hortons locations across Canada until Sunday, Sept. 22.
