Leading cause of fatal crashes in Sask. remains prevalent: SGI

Police across the province reported 341 cases of impaired driving in August, according to numbers from Saskatchewan Government Insurance.

That’s an average of 11 cases per day.

On Wednesday, SGI released the results of its August Traffic Safety Spotlight, which found 295 of those drivers were charged criminally while 46 were given roadside administrative suspensions.

Impaired driving is the leading cause of deadly crashes on the province’s roads.

SGI is urging the public to make sure friends and family don’t drive under the influence and to report impaired drivers when they see them.

According to the Crown corporation’s safety spotlight for the month, police also reported 7,762 cases of aggressive driving or speeding, 949 cases of distracted driving, and 632 cases where people weren’t properly buckled up.
