Skirting the Snow

Minimal snow expected in northeast

Parts of Saskatchewan are expecting significant snowfall over the coming days.

However, the northeast is expected to escape the worst of the nasty weather.

Natalie Hasell of Environment Canada told northeastNOW the area near the U.S. border, especially the Cypress Hills area in southwest Saskatchewan, should receive the most snow.

“[The weather system] will take a little bit longer to make it to [the northeast], so that’s why we’re only seeing flurries in the forecast by the time we get to Sunday,” Hasell said.

The northeast should see only a couple centimetres of snow at most, according to Hasell.

Rain or snow is in the forecast late Monday as well, and with the temperature hovering around freezing during that time, Hasell said that could lead to difficult driving conditions.

She recommends monitoring driving conditions during the weekend into next week, especially if you’re venturing anywhere into southern Saskatchewan.

Temperatures will warm up into Tuesday and any snow that would fall with this system likely won’t last long, with Wednesday’s high expected to be around 10 degrees Celsius.
