Melfort’s Fall Cleanup Week Approaching

Oct 1, 2019 | 9:00 AM

There’s a chance to get rid of your yard waste before winter hits.

Fall Cleanup Week in the city of Melfort is Oct.12 through 20.

Director of Development, Planning, and Communications Brent Lutz said during that time the city will be waiving landfill fees for residents who bring grass, garden and yard waste, and tree limbs.

Lutz told northeastNOW Greenland Waste will also collect those types of items during their regular front street garbage pickup that week.

“Our contractor will be picking up items such as tree limbs, leaves, grass, garden refuse if you bag them in clear bags and put them in front of your street during your regular garbage pickup day,” said Lutz.

All tree limbs must be less than 4 inches in length, while branches must be tied in bundles.

Furniture, appliances, or construction material will not be picked up in front of your home, and fees will not be waived for those items at the landfill, which is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., including Thanksgiving Monday.

Residents can also take advantage of the Compost Site on Central Street.

Lutz said grass, trees, leaves, and garden waste will be accepted at the site as long as weather permits.
