A special counselling service will be held Tuesday night at the Lake Park Baptist Church, in response to a tragic crash that happened over the weekend in the Rural Municipality of Birch Hills.

A 14-year old boy was killed Sunday in a single vehicle rollover. Senior Pastor Matthew Teigrob told paNOW the boy and his family are members of the local church community. He said the family is not alone.

“There’s a ton of support happening right now. I mean their house is constantly full and there’s been a lot of people bringing whatever they can over,” he said.

The 16-year-old boy driving the vehicle was transported by ambulance to hospital. Teigrob said last he heard the boy was listed in stable condition. He added the church is a close knit family and members will always be there for each other.

“To them as a family, we will offer whatever support we can,” he said.

The cause of Sunday’s crash remains under investigation but alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor. Lyle Evans, the chief of Birch Hills Fire and Rescue, told paNOW the Jaws of Life were needed to remove the boys from the vehicle.

Over the course of the past month, members of the volunteer fire department responded to at least three serious crashes. Two of those incidents were fatal.

“We are getting counselling after each incident so it’s helping,” Evans said, when asked how the crew is coping.
