Donor's Choice Is Back

Donor’s Choice returns to Melfort

Oct 15, 2019 | 8:01 AM

It’s a one-stop shop for local charities and organizations.

Melfort & District Donor’s Choice begins today at the Melfort Mall.

Donor’s Choice is a chance for residents of the Melfort area to donate to local charities and organizations, all in one place.

Sixteen agencies are on the list that most people have received in the mail, and spokesperson Russ Floyd said the list can also be found at the Wellness Clinic and the agencies listed.

This year’s campaign is much the same as last year, said Floyd.

“You can go to the mall and make your pledge or drop off your donation to whichever agency you’d like,” said Floyd. Direct deposits are also accepted at Affinity Credit Union, you can send an e-transfer to donorschoice@gmail.com, and they still accept by mail at P.O. Box 3793.

There will also be a table set up at Cindy’s Independent Grocer for the first time.

Floyd said it’s a great way for local organizations to combine forces to raise funds.

“Rather than each organization having fundraising and coming around knocking on doors or something, or sitting in the mall on their own saying ‘would you like to make a donation to Plus Industries’ [for example], we all get together and we split the workload between 16 different agencies and that way we all kind of cover each other.” Floyd said.

The following organizations are part of this year’s Donor’s Choice:

  • The Arthritis Society
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Melfort
  • Canadian Diabetes Association
  • The Canadian Red Cross Society
  • Lupus SK Society Inc.
  • Melfort Food Bank Inc.
  • Melfort Group Homes Society Inc.
  • #171 Melfort Phoenix Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron
  • Melfort Public Library
  • Multiple Sclerosis Society
  • North Central Health Care Foundation
  • North East Outreach and Support Services
  • North East Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Inc.
  • Early Childhood Intervention Program – North East – Special Needs Children
  • PLUS Industries
  • Special Olympics – Melfort

The campaign wraps up Oct. 26.
