Incubators next for NCHCF after diagnostic imaging equipment covered

The North Central Health Care Foundation (NCHCF) radiothon is coming up and a direct beneficiary from a similar event in 2017 hopes people get on board once again.

Dwayne Friesen is the manager of diagnostic imaging and saw firsthand how the public support helps the Melfort Hospital. For last year’s radiothon, the main piece that was being fundraised for was new digital imaging machines for the hospital. Friesen said with the new equipment, reports are sent to physicians at a much quicker pace.

“I would say as far as our patients are concerned we have much better service than we did before,” Friesen said.

Friesen said getting these donations allows the whole region to be served better medically.

“It’s so important to keep services within our communities,” he said. “And keep services close to home”

The diagnostic imaging equipment cost around $510,000 and just recently the full funds were covered. Now the NCHCF is looking to purchase new infant incubators for the Melfort Hospital. Those will cost around $60,000.

Friesen encouraged people to donate to the radiothon to bring these big pieces of equipment and services to Melfort.

“We only have so much money that we’ve got to purchase equipment,” Friesen told northeastNOW. “So we really need the public support in purchasing this equipment. It benefits the hospital and community so greatly when we have the public’s support in donating money.”

This year’s radiothon will take place on Friday, Oct. 16 and will open with a pancake breakfast at the Melfort Curling rink from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and the radiothon will be on 105 CJVR and Saskatchewan’s New Beach Radio for 12 hours that day.

Editor’s note: this article was amended to make clear the cost of the new infant incubators is $60,000 not $30,000 as initially reported.
