NCHCF fundraiser brings in over $54,000 for new incubator

The North Central Health Care Foundation Radiothon on Saskatchewan’s New Beach Radio and 105 CJVR was a major success.

The radiothon was held on Friday to raise money to go toward a new infant incubator.

Foundation Chair Peggy George told northeastNOW the results were fabulous.

“We’re proud to announce that the grand total of pledges received was $54,203,” said George, who has already asked the hospital to purchase the new equipment.

George said the new infant incubator will be a huge addition to the Melfort Hospital, with a lot of babies being delivered in the city and many needing a little extra care in the first few hours.

The current incubator is well past its best-before date, and George said having new equipment helps keep the hospital vibrant, and helps in retaining nurses, doctors, and technicians.

The fundraiser was also expense-free, meaning all money raised will go toward the purchase of the infant incubator.

The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation also lent a huge hand in the success of the fundraiser, pledging to match all donations from 4 to 7 p.m.

“They wanted to donate to our cause because it’s important to them as well for the patients to stay as close to home as possible,” George said. “The critical babies and moms will be going to the [Jim Pattison] Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon, but if we can keep our other little ones at home close to their home and relatives, that’s good too.”

George said the kindness of the donors during that time means they will receive a $10,000 cheque from the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

She credited the volunteers, sponsors, donors, and others in helping to make the radiothon a success.
