The provincial legislature will be abuzz again today with the start of the fall session.

The speech from the throne this afternoon will outline the Saskatchewan Party government’s plans for the coming months.

Melfort MLA Todd Goudy told northeastNOW while we will have to wait for the throne speech, a likely focus of Premier Scott Moe will be dealing with the new Liberal minority government in Ottawa after Monday’s federal election.

Education is also expected to be in the spotlight.

“Lots of stressors with the growing population, and our schools have done a great job, our teachers and educators have done a great job working with the growth in the province,” Goudy said.

Locally, the repaving of Saskatchewan Drive in Melfort, thanks in part to the province’s Urban Highway Connector Program, was well received, according to the MLA.

Melfort is also still hoping to get a CT scanner at the hospital at some point, and Goudy said each community and R.M. continue to have significant concerns about infrastructure replacement as well.

Goudy said he is eager to return to the Legislature.

“I’m looking forward to get back to work and to being in session,” Goudy said. “You can get a lot done, you see all the ministers each day and it’s a very fruitful, profitable time being back in session with the ministers and other MLAs.”
