Late penalties hurt Mustangs in loss to Hawks
There was apparently some sort of home ice advantage in this weekend’s home and home set between the Melfort Mustangs and Nipawin Hawks.
On Friday, the Mustangs defeated the Hawks 5-2 in Melfort. That was followed by a 2-1 Hawks win on Saturday, in Nipawin.
It was a quiet first period with not much entered on the scoresheet. Nipawin had two powerplays but were unsuccessful. The Hawks also had the majority of the chances, outshooting the Mustangs 13-6.
In the second, the Mustangs finally broke through. The puck found it’s way to the net where Tyson Meyers wacked at it numerous times before it crossed the goal line. That was followed by a pileup in front, but the goal counted to make it 1-0 Melfort after two periods.
