Ace was pulled but the chase continues in Melfort

Melfort’s Chase the Ace will be back to 52 cards in the deck after just five weeks into the community fundraiser.

The ace of spades was pulled by Sherry McJuray last night resulting in a cheque for $68 from the 20 per cent of the evening’s sales as well as the $1,000 for pulling the ace.

Committee member Trent Fedorychka said it was a bit of surprise but in a good way.

“Pretty exciting stuff for Sherry and for us it’s always nice to write those cheques to those who win and give thanks to those… supporting,” Fedorychka said.

The fundraiser that supports so many different service groups in the area will continue as usual according to Fedorychka.

“We will start again with a guaranteed $1,000 jackpot and we’ll just keep on going,” Fedorychka said.

Next week, the Melfort Legion is hosting supper. So far this season, the Chase the Ace committee hosted supper as well as the Melfort Golf and Country Club and the Friends of Stovel Park group.

Fedorychka said the great thing about the weekly event is that it puts so much money back into the community.

“You’re actually helping to support two causes,” Fedorychka said. “Number one, the Chase the Ace and number two the group that is putting on the meal so they have funds to do their projects within their own groups and organizations in the community.”

The Melfort Legion is the location for Chase the Ace each Thursday. Meals are available from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., ticket sales cut off at 6:45 p.m. with the draw made at 7 p.m. sharp.

The Chase the Ace committee is made up of representatives from the Melfort Kinsmen and Kinette groups, Melfort Legion, Melfort Curling Club, Melfort Golf and Country Club, Northeast SPCA, and Melfort Big Brothers Big Sisters.
