STARS Air Ambulance came in for a special landing at Redhead Equipment outside North Battleford Wednesday when the company announced a $1 million donation to the organization during its grand opening.

Redhead Equipment initially made the donation to the STARS Foundation one year ago but planned to officially make the announcement during its grand opening.

President and CEO Gary Redhead, who is based in Regina, said the company wanted to make a contribution to the air ambulance as the organization does wonderful work in the province.

He said Redhead Equipment has about 500 employees from its various branches in Saskatchewan who are often on the road traveling around the province. The company, he said, appreciates the important service STARS provides to ensure everyone has access to immediate medical care wherever they are.

Redhead says the company, which has eight locations in Saskatchewan, has donated over $2 million to STARS over the past five years and plans to give more in the future.

STARS is using the donation to help with operational costs.

STARS President and CEO Andrea Robertson said Redhead Equipment has always been a great community contributor to the organization.

“Redhead Equipment has supported us since our inception,” she said, adding it costs just over $20 million dollars a year to operate STARS.

The provincial government provides half of the financial support to cover that, while businesses and community donors contribute the rest.

“Every single dollar really helps keep us in the sky,” she said.
