Humboldt Broncos bus crash survivor regains movement in legs

Nov 7, 2019 | 10:46 AM

Humboldt Broncos bus crash survivor Ryan Straschnitzki was all smiles Wednesday as he celebrated another milestone in his long recovery.

For the first time since the crash left him partially paralyzed, the 20-year-old from Airdrie, Alta. was able to move his legs again.

His family shared a video online of him bending his left leg back and forth with the assistance of a physiotherapist following surgery on his spine.

Straschnitzki travelled to Thailand this month to have the surgery in hopes of regaining some movement.

The procedure involved doctors implanting an epidural stimulator in his spine. The device sends electrical currents to help move his limbs.
