Habitat for Humanity in Melfort looking for volunteers

Nov 16, 2019 | 5:40 PM

The newest Habitat for Humanity build in Melfort continues to move along.

The three bedroom, 1,000 sq. ft bungalow is located at 404 Burrows Ave. W. As of now, Project Manager Terry Thurrott said they are currently putting in water and sewer.

“We’re going to be starting to frame the basement right away quick here,” Thurrott said. “Within the week I’m hoping, weather permitting. So, we should see some progress starting to go there.”

Thurrott has gotten most of his contractors lined up for the project, but said there are a few more left to contact. He mentioned the fact that it’s a busy time for contractors as they look to get projects done before winter.

On top of contractors, Thurrott said he needs some volunteers to come help out with various pieces of the project. He said that with it being close to Christmas, people like to donate their time and money to different charities, and he hopes they look at Habitat for Humanity as an option.

“We’d love to have the community support,” Thurrott told northeastNOW. “Either financial, or even if you can come out for a couple of hours in an afternoon.”

He said on top of donating time and money, people can also donate materials, or anything that Habitat for Humanity could use in this build or others in the area.

Anyone who would like to help with the project can call Thurrott at 1-306-920-7997. He’s hoping the project is complete by early spring and the family can move in sometime shortly after that.
