Foul play not suspected in disappearance of Prince Albert man: police

The Prince Albert Police Service has issued an update in the search for Donald Light, advising the public the search for the 31-year-old continues but adding they do not suspect foul play.

Donald Arthur Light was last seen leaving a residence in the 400 block of eighth St. E. at 8:15 p.m. having left his home an hour and 15 minutes earlier on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Like he had done many times before, Donald advised his family he was going for a walk, only this time he did not return.

According to Wednesday’s media release from the police service, officers have been assigned to conduct additional door-to-door canvases this week in the area in which Donald was last reported seen. There has been no activity on Donald’s social media, banking or cell phone accounts since Nov. 19.

“It is important that police and the public work together, and the Prince Albert Police Service would like to thank the public for their efforts to help locate Donald Light,” the statement read.

Landon Zanidean, owner of Zanidean Aerial Photography, has been helping the search effort through the use of his drones. Zanidean told paNOW the drones have an advantage over someone who is searching on foot or in a vehicle.

“Typically when you are in a car or on foot, you can maybe cover a mile within 20 minutes, but with a drone I can cover miles and miles and miles within minutes,” he said.

Since Donald’s disappearance, Zanidean said he has been out every day, and has covered an area roughly stretching ten miles west of Prince albert, to beyond the forks east of the city.

“I’ve been pointing the camera down into the trees and see everything from above, and get really, really low to the water surface,” he explained.

Zanidean also has a personal interest in the search. Donald is the first cousin of Zanidean’s wife and so Zanidean has met Donald on a number of occasions including family gatherings and even just around the city.

“He’s a very, very smart kid, one of the smartest kids I’ve ever met in my life,” he said. “It just doesn’t add up at all.”

A Facebook group has also been created to help coordinate the search effort. As of Wednesday morning, the group had over 1,300 members.
