Sights, Sounds, and Smells of Christmas

Melfort Trade Alliance hosting Christmas tour event

Nov 27, 2019 | 11:46 AM

The sights, sounds, and smells of Christmas are being celebrated this Saturday by the Melfort Trade Alliance.

Businesses and organizations are working together to provide wagon rides that will start at the Historic Post Office, and travel to the Melfort Mall, City Hall, and Memorial Garden.

This is the first event that the group is hosting under the Melfort Trade Alliance name according to Treasurer Tara Muntain.

“We’re talking about bringing businesses together and unity and working together and that’s really important for us and can be seen through this first event,” Muntain said.

There will be specials at participating businesses along the route along with goodies and events as well.

Old McDales petting zoo will be set up in front of the Historic Post Office. Inside the building will be live music by the Szakacs, kids activities, and free giveaways.

Fleury’s wagon rides connects the tour and will load up behind the post office building.

The Prairie North Coop food store in the mall will have festive treats and cider. Mall merchants will also have their own specials happening that day which follows Black Friday.

The wagon will then head to Burrows Avenue West across from city hall for different activities including an open house in the old Source for Sports space.

“The theatre is also holding Frozen II over that day and the seniors bingo which is come and go is going on at the Seniors Hall, and the Escape Room has specials as well,” Muntain said.

Memorial Garden is on the next block and will have crokicurl open to the public, a bonfire and carolling.

“The Salvation Army will have their truck there with cider and dainties and giveaways,” Muntain said.

The wagon rides will then head back to the Melfort Historic Post Office building and will be on a loop from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“A positive way that we are working with the city and the other merchants and different aspects of the city that are coming together and working together,” Muntain said. “That’s the kind of vibe that we want Melfort to have.”

Starting December 1, the From Us to You promotion gets underway with 12 businesses participating. Two $25 gift cards will be up for grabs with the promotion.

A purchase from one of the 12 businesses will result in a passport sticker. Collecting four stickers qualifies for an entry into a draw for the gift cards.

“One of the baskets is for you, and the other is for you to give to someone to pay it forward,” Muntain said.

The draw will be made on December 13.

“We are hoping that this year is our trial run and that more businesses can join in next year,” Muntain said.

On Dec. 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the MTA will host a come and go Christmas business social at the Melfort Legion Lounge.

Muntain said it’s a time to relax and unwind and is an opportunity to learn more about the MTA.
