‘The worst part is not knowing’: Family of missing man not giving up hope

A man with the closest connection to the person who has been missing for over a week says he is relieved police have ruled out foul play regarding his disappearance.

David Light, the fraternal twin brother of Donald Light, was asked by paNOW to comment on recent information from the Prince Albert Police Service related to the search effort. Donald, 31, was last seen Nov. 19, after he told his family he was going for a walk but never returned.

“I guess it means there’s more hope he’s still somewhere,” David said.

In the days following Donald’s sudden and mysterious disappearance, people from all over the community and elsewhere have been sharing information on social media. In an effort to help get everyone literally on the same page, David created a Facebook group, which as of Wednesday night had over 1,400 members.

“I’m overwhelmed with how much Prince Albert has come together and everybody is just taking off and doing their own thing. It’s amazing,” he said.

David was asked by paNOW if there had been any signs his brother was suffering from any sort of depression at the time of his disappearance. David recalled a time months ago when his brother had expressed feelings of paranoia about a book he was writing, but added his brother seemed to snap out of it after a few days, and was back to his normal self.

“There’s nothing that’s led us to believe his state of mind was altered,” David said.

Late Wednesday afternoon, police issued a second release, advising they had received information Donald was seen near the river. A thorough search of the river was initiated shortly after and search and rescue teams set up at the boat club. Despite the possibility of facing grim news, David said he, and other members of the family, remain hopeful Donald will still come home.

“The worst part is not knowing, and I think we just want to know where he is,” he said.
