Teddy Bear Toss

Mustangs shutout Ice Wolves at Teddy Bear Toss night

Nov 30, 2019 | 9:18 AM

The Melfort Mustangs got some revenge on Friday, Nov. 29 as they defeated the La Ronge Ice Wolves 3-0.

The win comes just over a week after La Ronge came to Melfort and beat the Mustangs 3-1.

Things were much different this time around as Melfort dominated play early and often. They outshot the Ice Wolves 13-5 in the first period, but their only goal came from Adam Nobes with less than five minutes to play in the frame, sending the Northern Lights Palace into a frenzy for Teddy Bear Toss night, and making good on a promise.

“Really wanted that one,” Nobes said. “I told the boys before the game it was going to be me scoring it so it’s a great feeling actually getting that goal, pretty exciting. Got the boys fired up too.”

In the second period, things kept on rolling for the Mustangs as Tyson Meyers scored on a powerplay just about five minutes into the frame. Then Ben Tkachuk scored about two minutes later on a great feed from the newest Mustang Kyle Bosch. Melfort continued their dominating play, outshooting the Ice Wolves 16-5 in that period.

The Mustangs weren’t able to add another one as the Ice Wolves came back with some jump in the third, but they couldn’t beat Shawn Parkinson who stopped 17 shots overall, some of which were very high end chances. Nobes said this win felt really good, especially after last weeks loss.

“Great game all in all,” he said. “Everybody played their role and it’s a good game to reflect on so we have to bounce back tomorrow and keep this going.”

Melfort gets back on the ice on Saturday as they take on the Ice Wolves once again, this time in La Ronge.
