Melfort Museum hosting fundraising festive lunch, Christmas dinner and auction

Dec 2, 2019 | 3:00 PM

For the 15th year, the Melfort and District Museum will host their celebration of Christmas.

A festive lunch will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as a Christmas dinner taking place at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Museum Curator Gail Marie Anderson said both events will happen at the Historic Post Office.

“We had it there last year and that went very well,” Anderson said. “Just like everything, we are trying to get community events into the building and just let people know that it is available for the community.”

A silent auction containing numerous items is a new addition to the celebration this year. That has already got underway on the museum Facebook page and will continue throughout Friday and Saturday. The auction will then wrap-up at the dinner on Saturday evening.

“We have had a lot of people bidding so that is great to see,” Anderson said.

Tickets are being sold in advance at the museum for the Christmas dinner for $30 a person while the soup and sandwich lunch is just $10 at the door.

Christmas dinner will feature entertainment by the Bortis family band.

“We started back in 2005 with the festival of trees and just carried on since then,” Anderson said. “It has become one of the museum’s biggest fundraisers.”

All proceeds from the two events will go back into museum programming.

“After all of this and we settle everything we just hunker down and do lots of administration before the year end,” Anderson said.
