Nipawin Christmas tree lighting event on Thursday

The busy start to the Christmas season continues in Nipawin.

The annual Christmas tree lighting will take place at the Nipawin town square Thursday, Dec. 5.

“We have Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus come out and I think their elves will be here too, we have sleigh rides and music and [a] bonfire,” Director of Parks and Recreation Chelsea Corrigan said.

The plan is also to have an introduction to crokicurl at the event, but weather is making that a challenge.

“We’re concerned we won’t have crokicurl ready,” Corrigan said. “We’ve had really good weather, so it’s making ice-making of crokicurl difficult. So we will try our best to have it there [on Thursday], but we’re not too sure yet.”

Corrigan said they hope to start crokicurl at around 5 p.m., with the tree lighting taking place at 6 p.m. and Santa will arrive at 6:30 p.m.

“It will be a good time for the Christmas season to start off, and [for] everybody to be downtown and celebrate the season,” Corrigan said.
