Roughriders name Jason Maas offensive co-ordinator

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have hired Jason Maas to be their new offensive co-ordinator, replacing Stephen McAdoo.

The CFL team made the announcement Friday, when they also announced Jason Shivers is returning for his second season as defensive co-ordinator.

Maas joins the Green and White after spending four seasons as the Edmonton Eskimos’ head coach. He compiled a 39-33-0 regular-season record and was 3-3 in the playoffs.

Edmonton fired Maas on Nov. 27; he had one year remaining on his contract with the team.

In the 2019 CFL post-season, Edmonton lost 36-16 to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East Division final.

Maas spent 11 seasons as a quarterback in the CFL, playing 198 regular-season games and making 62 starts.

Shivers took over as the Roughriders’ defensive co-ordinator last season after Chris Jones bolted to the NFL’s Cleveland Browns.

Under Shivers’ tutelage, the Roughriders’ defence allowed the fewest touchdowns (30) and the fewest yards of net offence (5,299) in the CFL. Saskatchewan also had the most sacks (56) in the league in the regular season.
