Local realtor appointed to provincial realtors’ association board

The newly amalgamated Saskatchewan Realtors’ Association (SRA) has a local realtor on its board of directors.

Richelle Rogers of Realty Executives Gateway Realty in Melfort was recently appointed to the board.

Rogers served on the transition committee that launched amalgamation discussions between the Association of Saskatchewan Realtors, Saskatoon Region Association of Realtors, and Association of Regina Realtors.

Rogers told northeastNOW being a board member of the SRA will be exciting.

“It’s going to be a huge learning curve, especially for myself,” she said. “I think a lot of the other people on the board have had board experience, and I have not had board experience.”

Rogers is one of four members on the board from the Saskatchewan Region. Regina and Saskatoon have four members each as well, to make up the 12-member board.

“Moving forward what we hope is to always have a well-rounded…representation, so somebody from the north, somebody from the south, so they’re not all designated in from one area,” she said.

The largest job of the current board of directors to date, according to Rogers, was to hire a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). They chose Jason Yochim, who was previously the CEO of Saskatoon Region Association of Realtors.

Rogers said the board will now continue to follow the policies they put in place, and deal with the changes resulting from the amalgamation of the three previous associations.

She said the board will also see where the members want to move from here.

“We really wanted to be member driven, and then the board will look at how to implement the programs and what issues each area is having and whatnot,” she said.

The amalgamation has been talked about for years, according to Rogers, and was voted down once before being approved. She said the merger should be a lot more efficient for costs, and the smaller boards were having difficulty getting issues and policies implemented due to their smaller size.

Avril Reifferscheid of Watrous was also elected to the board for a two-year term.
