Carlton Crusaders Play Against Melfort Comets

Carlton Crushes Cancer for the Victoria Hospital Foundation

Jan 13, 2020 | 9:01 AM

For the second year in a row, those living with and fighting cancer in our community will be receiving help from the Carlton Crushes Cancer Girls Fundraising Basketball Tournament.

This year’s tournament, aptly named “Home is Where the Heart Is,” is being hosted by the Carlton Comp High School.

The match will be between the Carlton Crusaders and the Melfort Comets on January 23rd at 7 pm at Carlton High School.

Grades 9-12 girls at Carlton High School have been busy fundraising in our community in a monumental effort to raise as much money as possible to support the event which will fund much needed medical equipment and furniture for patients living at home in Prince Albert fighting cancer.

Equipment such as pain pumps, beds, ceiling lifts and monitors are critical to ensuring a patient fighting cancer can stay in the comfort of their own home for as long as possible.

Last year’s event raised nearly $100,000 and once again, philanthropist Malcolm Jenkins from Canadian Tire has agreed to match the first $25,000 raised for this great cause.

“We are beyond grateful to be the recipient once again of this passionate fundraiser led by the girls basketball players in our community. Funds raised through ticket sales, sponsorship and t shirt sales will make an immediate and meaningful impact on people in our community fighting cancer. To see the youth in our community demonstrate such compassion and goodwill, is inspiring!” Sherry Buckler, VHF
