Two Tuesday calls for Melfort Fire Department

It was a busy Tuesday evening for the Melfort Fire Department on Jan. 15.

First, crews were called to the 500 block of Stovel Ave. W for a vehicle fire just before 5 p.m. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

The fire was extinguished and the scene was cleared. No other damage resulted from the vehicle fire.

Later that night, just after 10 p.m., the department was called to 403 Burns Ave. E for reports of a bed on fire. Crews discovered a mattress had caught fire in the building. It was extinguished and then removed.

Crews then ventilated the building and discovered and air handling unit was smoking and blowing smoke into the building. A building maintenance person then shut down the unit.
