Canadian Tire EV Charging

Canadian Tire in Humboldt one of 90 locations to receive electric vehicle charging

Jan 19, 2020 | 2:56 PM

Canadian Tire will expand its network of electric vehicle (EV) chargers across Canada.

The automotive retailer is working with Flo, Electrify Canada, Tesla, and Natural Resources Canada to install 240 fast chargers and 55 Level two chargers at 90 Canadian Tire locations by the end of 2020.

Eight of the 90 Canadian Tire’s receiving EV charging will be in Saskatchewan, including Humboldt.

“It’s still early… so I don’t have too many details regarding timing, but what I can tell you is that Humboldt was selected primarily due to its proximity to a major highway and Saskatoon,” Canadian Tire Corporate Communications Specialist Krystal Stukas told northeastNOW.

Canadian Tire is expected to spend more than $5 million on the EV charging expansion, with $2.7 million also coming from Natural Resources Canada.

“The move towards more zero mission vehicles is an integral part of our transition to a clean energy future,” Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O’Regan said in a release.

Estevan, North Battleford, Regina, Saskatoon, Swift Current, and Weyburn are the other Saskatchewan communities with Canadian Tires chosen to receive EV charging.

There’s no date on exactly when Humboldt’s EV charging station will be installed.
