· Operating a snowmobile while impaired carries the same penalties as driving a vehicle while impaired.
· Alcohol is a contributing factor in more than 40% of fatal off-road vehicle crashes in Saskatchewan.
· Studies of snowmobile deaths indicate that three out of four snowmobilers had been drinking.

The annual Snowmobile & Ice Safety Webinar will be taking place Tuesday, February 11th at 1:15p.m.
The webinar is open to any Grade 6-12 students/classrooms that would like to take part and have a chance to win some awesome prizes.
· How does this work? Classrooms can connect via the web link provided when registering, it can be viewed on a smartboard or via a computer/projector(sound is required). Students fill out a quick evaluation after watching and are entered into the draw to win prizes.
· What if this time doesn’t work for our school? The webinar will be recorded and a link will be available for anyone to view after the live session. Students can still fill out the evaluation after watching the recorded webinar. Evaluation deadline to be entered for prizes is March 1, 2020.

Funding Opportunities
· The deadline for the SGI/ABI Community grant is February 28. This community grant is for traffic safety and other injury prevention programs. The goal is to enable community groups to establish, enhance, and deliver programs that address safety issues in their communities.
SGI and ABI will provide support and guidance in identifying priorities and in the development and implementation of any of these initiatives.
Preference will be given to projects that have a demonstrated need, strong community involvement or to projects that are funded on a shared basis. For more information contact an ABI Education & Prevention Coordinator in your area or look under Road Safety on the SGI website www.sgi.sk.ca
Topics that the Community Grant Program will fund include: Acquired Brain Injury – All-Terrain Vehicle Safety – Bicycle Safety – The Brain – Child Passenger Safety – Fall Prevention – Farm Safety – Helmet Use – Home Safety – Impaired Driving Prevention – Mild Brain Injury – Pedestrian Safety – Playground Safety – School Bus Safety -Snowmobile Safety – Sports & Recreation Safety – Stroke Prevention – Traffic Safety – Water & Boating Safety
· Car Seat Grant program is open to non-profit groups and law enforcement agencies to purchase car seats, to a maximum of $2,500 per year per organization.
Organizations can apply for the grant, and if successful, will receive the funds to purchase the car seats that meet their needs.
The grant will be offered four times per year. To apply for the grant, visit the SGI website at www.sgi.sk.ca/community-grants-programs and download the Car Seat Grant application form. Applications are accepted quarterly throughout the year, with funds awarded in June, September, December and March.
