Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID)- Feedback Needed
Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID)
The federal government is asking Canadians to provide feedback on eligibility for medical assistance in dying (MAID) and criterion relating to ‘reasonable foreseeability of death’.
The possibility of new eligibility requirements was revealed on Monday, January 13th, with the Department of Justice posting a questionnaire offering Canadians ‘the opportunity to share their views with the Government of Canada on this deeply personal and very important issue.’
A full review is expected to take place this summer, however the Government of Canada is requesting feedback to see how Canadians are responding to the Quebec Superior Court ruling in September 2019 that Canadians should not have to be near death to qualify for medical assistance to end their lives.
