HDBID shifts administration to Humboldt Chamber

Feb 11, 2020 | 10:41 AM

A number of changes and developments have members of the Humboldt Downtown Business Improvement District (HDBID) excited for 2020.

The district members announced their 2020 Board of Directors, including Chairperson Jamie Richardson, previous members Erin Strueby and Carrie Hiebert, and new members Lana Muggli and Olivia Coffyne.

The organization is also partnering with the City of Humboldt on improvements to the Seventh Street development. They will also be working with the city’s community and leisure services on improvements for benches, lamp posts, and bike racks in the downtown core.

Richardson told northeastNOW there will be a change to the annual Streetfest event.

“We have a new date for Streetfest this year, it’s a little sooner in the year to coincide with the Humboldt Broncos Memorial Golf Tournament, and to take advantage of a little more back to school shopping,” Richardson said. The 2020 Streetfest will take place Aug. 7 and 8.

The district will also continue to bolster their partnership with the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce.

Richardson said they have been working closely with the Chamber with the shop local and moonlight madness/black Friday campaigns.

“We’re partnering with them effective Feb. 4 for our day-to-day administration, so when the board’s doing their day jobs, we’ve got someone live to answer phones,” Richardson said.

He said the move allows the two organizations to continue their synergies, and continue their networking with the same people.

The HDBID used to have an office as part of the provincial Main Street program, but after the program was discontinued by the government they had been administering the organization on a part-time basis.

Richardson said it’s difficult to find part-time administration staff, and having those duties covered by chamber staff is a win for both sides.

“It’s kind of best of both worlds, a little cheaper for us, and a little income for them,” Richardson said.

You can call the chamber at 306-682-4990 to contact HDBID, or email humboldtdowntownbid@gmail.com.
