Fundraising rolls on for Melfort Heliport project

Feb 20, 2020 | 5:18 PM

Fundraising continues for the Melfort Heliport project at the Melfort Hospital.

Back in mid-January, when the North Central Health Care Foundation (NCHCF) launched the fundraising campaign, only $132,000 was left to be raised of the $600,000 goal.

At this point however, NCHCF Chair Peggy George said it’s hard to pinpoint an accurate number.

“In there, is a lot of gifts in kind that are still really hard to pinpoint at this point,” she said. “There’s some more stages to go through for ground effects, and so on. It’s definitely smaller than that.”

Things like tree clearing, ground work, and fencing are all examples of some things that may be done through gifts in kind.

Moneywise, the most recent major donation came from Affinity Credit Union as they gave $10,000 dollars to the project. George said that no matter the donation, it all helps.

She said they hope to get construction started when the weather gets a bit nicer.

“We’re hoping,” George said. “There’s still paperwork to do, and a few more funds to raise for sure. But no, we’re hoping even if it’s June, that’s great, we’re going to get it done.”

George said even though they don’t have an exact number fundraised right now, they wanted to make sure their goal was high to make sure they would be able to get it done. She said if they over-fundraise, it still helps healthcare in the region as the NCHCF would be able to use it for other equipment in the area.

Progressive 50/50 tickets are still available to help fundraise for the heliport project. Tickets are available until Feb. 29, and the draw is that night at 9 p.m.
