Melfort Cooperative Daycare to host first ever family dance fundraiser

Feb 20, 2020 | 3:00 PM

The theme is ‘Prom Night’ but the aim is to raise funds for the Melfort Cooperative Daycare at a family dance this weekend.

According to the daycare director Taneyl Morrison, her staff wanted to try something new.

“We do a lot of the same fundraisers year after year and those are still our tried and true fundraisers but we are trying to kick things up a little bit,” Morrison said.

The dance takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Kerry Vickar Centre on Saturday night. There will be music as well as food, refreshments and a photo booth.

Families of four can get in for $25, adults pay $10 each and under 12 years of age are $5. Advance tickets can be purchased at all three daycare locations and will also be available at the door.

“The staff are able to use the funds for craft supplies and stuff that they want for their programming,” Morrison said. “We follow by play and exploration so it’s a lot of child-lead play through learning.”

Morrison said they are hoping for around 200 people to attend the dance that is open to the entire community and not just the daycare families.

“We are trying to get our name out there and into the community as well and build a really strong team with the community of Melfort,” Morrison said.
