Melfort Trail Riders coming off successful provincial snowmobile festival

The 2020 provincial snowmobile festival is being deemed a success by the Melfort and District Trail Riders (MDTR) group.

Over 260 people were in attendance for the banquet on Saturday night and 44 riders took part in the dignitaries ride on Friday afternoon to kick off the festival.

MDTR President Doug Armstrong said the number of riders at the festival was comparable to when they hosted back in 2014.

“We are very happy with that and we were actually pleasantly surprised since our early registration numbers were very low but it came together and the Kerry Vickar Centre was rocking,” Armstrong said.

All of the weekend events were held at the KVC including a Family Feud style game by Saddles and Steel on the Friday night, as well as a breakfast, sold-out banquet and dance on Saturday night.

Awards handed out at the banquet included the most riders from one club which went to the Yorkton Club. The award for the oldest rider went to a 76 year-old man.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and we are so very happy with the support from our sponsors and volunteers,” Armstrong said.

According to Armstrong, the melting temperatures in the days ahead of the festival weren’t favourable for trail conditions but the riders were still pretty happy with them.

“We also need to give a huge hand to the members of our club that put in many, many hours of their time to make this event another success,” he said.
