Trio charged after Melfort traffic stop

Three people face a variety of charges after a traffic stop in Melfort last month.

Melfort Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan stopped a vehicle for several violations under the Traffic Safety Act during traffic enforcement in the city Feb. 11.

It was discovered the vehicle was stolen, and Melfort RCMP was contacted to help in the investigation.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 2.26 grams of methamphetamine, and brass knuckles.

46-year-old Dave Smith has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, and failure to comply with a probation order.

32-year-old Sheena Stonestand is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, while 35-year-old Amber Parfitt is charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Smith has been remanded into custody and will appear in Melfort Provincial Court May 14.

Stonestand and Parfitt have been released and are due in court April 7.
