CJHL officially announces cancellation of 2019-2020 hockey season amid COVID-19 concerns

Things are officially shut down for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) for the remainder of the 2019/2020 hockey season.

The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced on Friday, March 13 that they “have officially cancelled the remainder of the 2019-20 season, due to the ongoing global COVID-19,” a release stated.

The cancellation includes all of the playoffs that were currently underway, as well as the regional championships including the Anavet Cup between the SJHL and Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). The cancellation also includes the national championship, otherwise known as the Centennial Cup that was slated for Portage la Prairie, Man.

“We continue to align our direction, consistent with that of Hockey Canada, and support their overall direction completely. “ said CJHL President Brent Ladds in the release.

Hockey Canada made their latest announcement on Thursday night stating that all of their sanctioned events would be cancelled until further notice.
