Town of Nipawin closing facilities due to COVID-19

Mar 16, 2020 | 3:36 PM

The Town of Nipawin has announced a number of closures in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their news release today said the town’s top priorities are the health, safety, and well-being of employees and members of the public, while also maintaining essential services.

“By way of that we actually have decided to close our public facilities,” Mayor Rennie Harper told northeastNOW.

The Town Office will be closed to the public, but you can call staff members at 306-862-9866. Payments for taxes, utility bills, and accounts receivable can be made through online banking.

“We are going to be monitoring this closely as the situation changes, and because we are in flux right now we’re going to be checking in on a regular basis and perhaps updating the closure plan as we move along,” Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Barry Elliott said.

He said a number of staff members have the ability to work from home if needed, but separating the employees from the public may be enough for now. Elliott said they will continue to monitor the situation for changes.

The town has also decided to cancel its upcoming March 23 council meeting.

Mayor Harper said they will hold a conference call to discuss how to proceed with council meetings in the future, which could include holding them via conference call or another avenue.

She said the town has the health of everyone in mind.

“It’s an attempt to ensure as much as possible that people are keeping their distance, and to make sure that our staff is staff and that our public here is safe as well,” Harper said.
