Randy Hoback awaiting results of COVID-19 test

Prince Albert MP Randy Hoback is self-isolating awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test.

Hoback met with David Beasley, the executive director of the world food program on March 11. Beasley has since tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

“Then I was noticing I was getting a sore throat and that is one of the symptoms for COVID, so I phoned the public health and I told them exactly the situation, ” Hoback told paNOW. “And they said we should get you tested regardless and definitely self-isolation.”

“You know I’d really, really hate to spread this to somebody else, especially somebody else that got really sick and possibly died from it, so I thought the best thing I could do is ignore the public and stay isolated,” he said.

Other than the sore throat Hoback said he was feeling well. His test results are expected to be in on March 24. Until then the P.A. MP will be in self-isolation along with his wife until further notice.

Meanwhile, he said his office is dealing with people over the phone and via email. He explained much of their work is dealing with the fallout of the COVID-19 outbreak. His office is working to help constituents stuck in other countries.

“Our biggest issue right now is getting people home,” he said.

Hoback stressed the importance of people who have travelled outside the country to practice self-isolation for the 14 day period.

Earlier this month Hoback self-monitored for 14 days and remained in Ottawa after attending a conference at which a delegate tested positive afterwards.
