Nipawin RONA PBR postponed due to COVID-19

Bull riding enthusiasts in the northeast will need to wait a while longer to get their rodeo sports fix.

The Nipawin RONA PBR – a bull riding event hosted by 3D Bullriding Inc. and the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) of Canada – has been postponed. The initial date was set for Friday, May 8.

Susan Westgard from the Nipawin RONA PBR Committee said the postponement comes after provincial health authority guidelines regarding COVID-19.

“This is to keep everybody safe because there are a lot of international competitors as well,” Westgard said. “We encourage everyone to keep their tickets; they will be honoured when the event is rescheduled. If you choose to refund your tickets, you can go back to where you purchased them beginning on Monday, April 6, and we’ll definitely refund your money if you choose.”

Since the Nipawin RONA PBR is part of the Canadian Touring Pro Division Tour, Westgard said PBR Canada will have to reschedule events in other communities before Nipawin has a set date. However, rescheduling could be more of an issue when the summer months wind down.

Because we hold our event indoors at Centennial Arena, there is definitely an end date where we couldn’t do it,” Westgard said. “As soon as the ice is back in the arena, we obviously wouldn’t be able to host the event.”

Westgard said the possibility of holding the Nipawin RONA PBR outdoors has not been addressed yet by the committee.
