A sunny, warm start to the weekend to give way to cooler conditions

The province can expect some beautiful weather over the next couple of days.

Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist Terri Lang told northeastNOW sunshine and above seasonal temperatures will last through Saturday.

The high temperature on Saturday could hit 9 Celsius in the northeast.

“We should all take advantage, I think, of that very nice weather and start that snow melt going as well,” Lang said. “I think we could all use the Vitamin D. Of course, we’re doing the social distancing thing that we all need but I think we should all get out there and enjoy the nice weather while we have it.”

The temperature will drop on Sunday, falling slightly below zero. Meanwhile, a system will be coming in early next week that could bring some rain and snow, Lang said.

“The weather models are still trying to kind of get a handle on what they want to do with it, but it does look like we could might see some more snow, so Mother Nature won’t let us let go of winter quite yet,” she said.

Next Tuesday could be a stormy, windy day similar to what we saw this past Tuesday with the blowing and drifting snow.

The early spring in Saskatchewan often features significant changes in temperatures and conditions. Lang said that will be the case over the next several days.

“This is the time of year when we do see big swings in temperatures, the really nice temperatures and then the cold,” Lang said.

An arctic high will be sitting in the north most of next week, with below normal temperatures in the forecast.

“Keep the shovel out and keep the flip-flops by the door in hopes that maybe we’ll finally get some nice weather,” she said. “But we’ve got some cold weather and some snow to get through yet.”
