e-Transfer Amidst COVID-19

Northeast Co-ops adopt e-Transfer options amidst COVID-19 pandemic

Mar 27, 2020 | 5:45 PM

Some Co-ops in the northeast have implemented a new way to serve while enforcing social distancing recommendations.

Prairie North and Beeland Co-op will accept e-Transfer payments as part of their phone-in, pickup, and curbside delivery services. Pineland Co-op told northeastNOW they’re reviewing the process for their operations. Representatives from both Carrot River and Humboldt Co-op locations could not be reached prior to publication.

Todd Svenson, Beeland Co-op’s general manager, said e-Transfer payments are new for his business.

“We’ve talked about that for a while as far as accepting payment,” Svenson said. “It was on the backburner and not a high priority until now. With what we’re dealing with right now, it’s just a good business move to be able to take payment that way and limit contact the best we can.”

Orders will be taken over the phone by employees at Beeland Co-op’s Agro, Food, Home, and Sport and Leisure stores. Employees assemble the order, run it through the till, and send the cost before the customer’s e-Transfer is processed.

Svenson said delivery and curbside pickup for food runs from Monday through Friday, Other services will mainly rely on curbside pickup, but delivery will be possible if needed.

“Now that we’ve got it in place, it’ll be something that will stay,” Svenson said. “Once we’re back to a more normal business transaction, I don’t know if there will be a huge demand.”
