Nipawin Lions Club cancels Tradeshow, other events in limbo

With Saskatchewan’s State of Emergency being extended another two weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nipawin Lions Club decided to cancel its upcoming Tradeshow.

The Tradeshow was scheduled to run at the Evergreen Centre in Nipawin from April 17 to 19, although the State of Emergency will be in effect until Wednesday, April 15, leaving scarce time for setup in a best-case scenario.

Brian Starkell from the Nipawin Lions Club said they did think about postponing the Tradeshow to either June or September but instead chose to prepare for 2021 as farmers will be busy with seeding season and harvest respectively.

“We won’t have the funding we had in the past,” Starkell said. “It’s about $15,000 that we receive and give back to the community. It’ll be a little tougher year for all of us, but we’ll have to tighten our belts and get through this as best as possible.”

One spring fundraiser Starkell said the Nipawin Lions Club still hopes to take place is the Walk for Dog Guides in May, as it takes place outdoors. He did note the Lions Club Wind Up will be postponed to a later date.

“Our Lions meetings have been cancelled until further notice and we probably won’t resume until the fall,” Starkell added. “We’re just making any decisions that our Lions Club has to make for finances through the executive and inform our members by text or email.”
