Kerry Vickar Centre online art exhibit open for submissions

Apr 8, 2020 | 12:00 PM

The Kerry Vickar Centre in Melfort is inviting all art forms for their online art exhibit.

The idea follows the lead of the elementary school exhibit that would typically be happening at this time.

“It was just fantastic to see the art and the teachers would put in some extra time to get it organized and then we’d have a reception for each one,” Program Coordinator Kathy Gray said. “It was just really just a positive experience.”

The elementary exhibit was started in 2017 and has become something the kids look forward to.

“After the first one, when the kids would come into the building they would actually go into the gallery and look at the art and just have a different appreciation after having their own work exhibited,” Gray said.

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing closures of public facilities, the gallery at the KVC is closed until further notice, prompting the virtual switch.

Gray said instead of it just being elementary children, this online exhibit is open to all ages.

“We are disappointed to have missed the kids work this year but we do have some incredible artists around here so it’s nice to be able to continue to have some art to show,” Gray said. “Any art medium is welcome, if you made it, it is art.”

Submissions can be made through the KVC Facebook Page or at kvc@melfort.ca and it will be added to an ongoing video on the Kerry Vickar Centre Facebook page.
