City of Melfort recommending residents resist gathering for holiday

Apr 11, 2020 | 12:00 PM

The city of Melfort is urging residents to stay home and stay apart during Easter.

Director of Development, Planning and Community Relations Brent Lutz told northeastNOW their wish is that everyone has a safe and healthy holiday.

He said local medical health officer Dr. Mohammad Khan asked the city to pass along some safety tips amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Don’t invite family and friends over for dinner. Instead, host a virtual gathering using digital technology,” Lutz said. “You should restrict in-person gatherings to just people that are living in the same home, and even while doing that you should always practice preventative measures like frequent hand washing and physical distancing.”

Lutz said only one person in the home should go shopping for essentials, and that person should only shop once a week if possible. That designated shopper should have a list prepared ahead of time to avoid browsing.

“If we all resist the temptation to physically gather together over this holiday weekend, we will all be doing our part to keep our families, friends and neighbours safe,” Lutz said.
