Melfort RCMP make arrest following Wednesday’s chase

Melfort RCMP have made an arrest in connection to the chase that took place on the morning of Wednesday in Melfort.

Fourty five-year-old Gordon Webb of Melfort has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, fail to remain at the scene of an accident, flight From police, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Melfort Combined Traffic Services (MCTS) attempted to stop a vehicle in Melfort for speeding on Broadway Ave. N. The vehicle failed to spot, leading to the chase that went down numerous streets in the city. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle and a MCTS vehicle were involved in a collision. Crews stopped the pursuit shortly after due to public safety.

Further investigation revealed the suspect vehicle had been abandoned in the RM of Willow Creek. A release by the RCMP said they did get valuable information from the public that helped in the arrest of the driver of the vehicle later that night. RCMP had told northeastNOW on Wednesday they were looking for a white, two-door Monte Carlo.

Webb was set to appear in court on Friday, May 22.

Numerous other police organizations were also involved, including Nipawin RCMP, Tisdale RCMP, Prince Albert Police Dog Service, and the Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team.
