Carrot River Outdoors Club opens archery range for the season

Jun 2, 2020 | 12:04 PM

The Carrot River Outdoors Club opened its outdoor archery range for the season on Tuesday.

The club that has around 150 members is expected to keep the range quite busy this year with limited activities available to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Executive Member Chad Trombley said this is one of the safest outdoor activities during this new normal.

“We have our lanes spaced out a lot so it is very easy to social distance at the range,” Trombley said.

The range boasts six shooting platforms with 3D targets ranging from 20 yards to 60 yards, a lane to bring your own target, and a lane for youth and beginners.

“Bows and arrows can be arranged for youth at the recreation board office free of charge,” Trombley said.

All equipment will be cleaned and sanitized between uses.

The town of Carrot River provides the green space for the archery range within town limits, making it easily accessible.

“The range is open from dawn until dusk, seven days a week,” Trombley said.

Anyone using the range must hold a membership which can be purchased from Trombley at Integra Tire in the community or from any executive member.

“We are always accepting members and especially youth and people who want to try out our outdoor facilities,” Trombley said.

Members range from the age of 12 and all the way up to 65.

The Carrot River Outdoors Club has the outdoor archery range, rifle range and a trout pond for their members.

The club was set to hold a wildlife supper and awards night in April but that was cancelled due to public health guidelines and restrictions on gatherings in Saskatchewan due to the coronavirus outbreak.
