Safety Seat Changes

In-person car seat inspections to resume

Jul 2, 2020 | 8:00 AM

Face-to-face car seat inspections are once again being allowed as of today.

Melfort Ambulance manager Wayne Therres tells northeastNOW the inspections are initially to be done by appointment only.

“A lot of the information will be garnered before you come to do the inspection when you make the appointment,” Therres said. “Go through a questionnaire, and some screening, stuff like that.”

Protective measures will be undertaken to help keep everyone safe amid COVID-19. Therres said part of those measures will be masks, gloves, and potentially gowns.

He said ensuring your car seats are properly installed can mean a huge difference in the safety of your child.

“If the seat isn’t properly installed, the protection it provides your child of course then is diminished,” Therres said. “If the child isn’t properly seated in the seat with the safety belts routed and snug as they should be, again gives you more chance that the child will be injured should you be involved in a motor vehicle collision.”

Therres said they were conducting in-person car seat inspections until early April, when the recommendation was made to do safety seat inspections via social media or Skype in an effort to maintain social distancing.
