Melfort Youth Evolution kicking off ‘Keep it 100’ program

Jul 7, 2020 | 5:00 PM

The Melfort Youth Evolution, in conjunction with North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) is gearing up for a new program for teens in the area.

The ‘Keep it 100’ program will kick off on Tuesday, July 14 with a ‘Meet and Greet From Six Feet’ barbecue. Youth Coordinator Kathryn Carswell said all public health guidelines will be followed at the barbecue.

The program looks to help foster healthy teen relationships, according to Carswell and is geared towards those aged 10 to 19.

“Talking of course about the most important relationship, the relationship that you have with yourself,” she said. “We’re going to have fun together, we’re going to laugh together, we’re going to do activities from six feet apart.”

Other topics including gender inclusion, bullying, and other forms of violence. The program will run monthly and will be four hours per session.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, the Melfort Youth Evolution has still tried to have some programming for the youth in the area.

“This will be the first face to face activity that we’ve done,” Carswell told northeastNOW. “We’ve just still been continuing with the zoom calls.”

The barbecue will be at Stovel Park in Melfort and is free of charge. Carswell said there are rides available for anyone who might be coming from a bit further away, but those are to be set up prior to the barbecue.

Registration for the ‘Keep it 100’ program can be found on Facebook, or the NEOSS website.
