The first days: northeast and area museums that re-opened and remained closed
Museums could resume operations on June 29 as part of Phase Four of Re-Open Saskatchewan, but not every community’s history gatekeeper were ready to re-open.
In Nipawin and Tisdale, both museums remain closed. On Wednesday, July 8, the Tisdale and District Museum announced they would remain closed until further notice. Meanwhile, the Nipawin and District Living Forestry Museum remains temporarily closed but will decide within the upcoming two weeks on whether they’ll re-open for the summer or not.
However, some museums have opened their doors. Melfort and District Museum re-opened on July 6 for self-guided tours, and the Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery re-opened on July 7.
Jennifer Fitzpatrick, the City of Humboldt’s Director of Cultural Services, said a few of the museum’s interactive spaces are removed to follow provincial health guidelines, but the first three days back in business have been smooth.
