An event is coming to Melfort to help raise funds and support local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘Music to Art’ was created by Justin Rempel and his daughter Micaela. Justin said they got to talking with local artist Linsey Levendall, who created the community mural between the historic post office and Home Hardware in Melfort. They were thinking of ways to have an event to bring music and art together.

“So we just came up with the idea on a whim last week at the park,” Justin said. “And it’s kind of caught on like wildfire, people are really interested.”

The event is set for August 22 and will see artists from the region created wide ranges of art while local musicians do their thing in sessions of one hour or half an hour. Justin said all types of art or welcome, anything from paintings to sculptures and everything in between.

The public would be able to come to the event and see the art being made, and possibly even purchase it after.

“And then after, we’re going to have an online auction with the art,” Rempel told northeastNOW. “And all that money is going to the local businesses in Melfort.”

The Melfort Trade Alliance would get the money according to Rempel and they would then distribute the funds.

Not only would there be music and art to watch, but there’s also going to be a kids corner for the younger crowd according to Micaela.

“So then the parents can enjoy all the music and the art that we’re going to be doing,” she said. “And the kids can come hang out with me and do lots of fun crafts and art.”

Justin added that everything will be done while following COVID-19 guidelines. Things like social distancing will be followed, and sanitizer will be available for all. He said they’re currently working on creating a list of official guidelines for musicians and artists.

Any artists or musicians that are interested can contact Rempel through the ‘Music to Art’ Facebook page.
