CJVR’s Cal Gratton nominated for Canadian Country Music Award

Another accolade for CJVR music director Cal Gratton.

He is nominated for a Canadian Country Music Award (CCMA) for Music Director of the Year in a medium or small market.

In May, Gratton won the Saskatchewan Country Music Award (SCMA) for Music Director of the Year in a Secondary Market. CJVR was also named the Radio Station of the Year in a Secondary Market at the SCMA’s.

Gratton said the CCMA nomination feels very good, and he has been nominated for the award several times in the past.

“It’s always great to be recognized by your peers and fans of country music across Saskatchewan, and Canada,” Gratton told northeastNOW.

The Coast to Coast Close-up has been running for a number of years, and is now featured online. Gratton said the program allows him to connect with independent artists across the country on a deeper level.

“I interview independent artists and we develop friendships may times over the years,” Gratton said. “They contact me, which is really nice, when they have a new release coming out so we chat about that and we play their tune, and we continue to forge that relationship.”

There are several Saskatchewan artists that are up for CCMA’s this year.

The Hunter Brothers of Shaunavon are nominated for three awards, including Fan’s Choice, Group or Duo of the Year, and Video of the Year.

Weyburn’s Tenille Arts is nominated for Album of the Year for Love, Heartbreak, & Everything In Between, and is also up for the Rising Star award. Jess Moskaluke of Langenburg is nominated for Female Artist of the Year.

The SCMA’s were held online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it appears the CCMA’s will be virtual as well. The awards show will be broadcast Sept. 27 on Global.
